This 9 day tour starts in Dehi and proceeds to the holy city of Amritsar, home of the Golden Temple. It then travels through the foothills of the Himalayas to Shimla, which was the summer capital of 'British India', as well as visiting Dharamsala, with its Buddhist temples and monasteries. This is a wonderful tour for those wanting to visit North West India.

Description

Day 01: Arrive in Delhi.
On arrival at New Delhi airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel by private vehicle. Overnight at your Hotel.

Day 02: Delhi to Amritsar.
In the morning you will be transferred to Delhi station to board your train to Amritsar. It is home to the famous Golden Temple which has more visitors each year than the Taj Mahal in Agra. In the evening you will visit the border between India and Pakistan, known as Wagha Border, to witness the flag lowering ceremony. Overnight at your Hotel.

Day 03: In Amritsar.
After breakfast start your tour of Amritsar city at the Golden Temple, also known as Harmandir Sahib. You will also visit Jaliawala Bagh, infamous for the Jaliawala Bagh massacre that took place in 1919. Overnight at your Hotel.

Day 04: Amritsar to Dharamsala.
Today you will drive to Dharamsala. In the afternoon you will visit Mcleodganj and the Dalai Lama complex which contains the Dalai Lama’s residence, a monastery, a temple and stupas. Overnight at your Hotel.

Day 05: Dharamsala. Excursion to Palampur.
Today you will visit Palampur, known as the tea capital of India. While in Palampur visit the Tea Gardens, as well as Bir and Billing, both popular landing areas for hang gliding and a renowned site for paragliding. On your return to Dharamsala visit the Baijnath Temple. Overnight at your Hotel.

Day 06: Dharamsala to Shimla.
Today you will drive to Shimla. Here you will be able to spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at your Hotel.

Day 07: In Shimla.
Sightseeing around Shimla today will start with a visit to one of Shimla’s major landmarks the Christ Church, the second oldest church in Northern India built between 1846 and 1857. You will then visit the Scandal Point and the Himalayan Aviary. In the evening you will visit Viceregal Lodge (now called The Institute of Advanced Studies) located on the Observatory Hill, which was also known as the ‘Rashtrapati Niwas’. Overnight at your Hotel.

Day 08: Shimla to Delhi via Kalka.
In the morning you will be transferred to Shimla railway station to board the famous Toy Train Himalayan Queen to Kalka station where you will take a connecting train to Delhi. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Delhi. Overnight at your Hotel.

Day 09: Depart Delhi.
After breakfast you will check out of the hotel and will then be taken on a half day city tour. After the tour you will be transferred to New Delhi airport to board your onward flight.
