The Undiscovered Rajasthan

Rajasthan is a treasure trove of history, tourist places and hidden gems.   It has some of the best ‘off the beaten track’ places to visit. It has nature at its glorious best and also some of the most majestic monuments to boast off. Everyone visits the Sam in Jaiselmer, the Mehrangarh fort in Jodhpur and the Pushkar mela but very few know of the lesser know treasures. Let’s unearth some of the hidden gems.

Bundi- This picture perfect, quaint town has a towering fort that has not been conquered, a palace with intricate frescos and ornate paintings and beautiful architecture and the enormous Nawal Sagar Lake. This city is best explored on foot- walking on cobbled streets, looking at pre-historic rock paintings, spending leisure time at a beautiful waterfall and visiting ancient temples.

Kalakho- This weekend destination is a must do for all those who love history and nature. Nestled in the Aravalli Hills, Kalakho is steeped in history with forts to explore. You can indulge in some adrenaline pumping activities with jungle safaris, camel cart rides and bird watching.

Karauli- Once upon a time, the capital of the Yaduvanshi Rajputs, the Rajput kingdom of Karauli, it is a rare gem of Rajasthan that is hardly explored. It has some beautiful historical attractions like the city palace, Timangarh Fort and some ancient temples.  Those with an inclination for art and history would surely love it.

Mandawa- It was a relevant trade attraction in the past as it was on the famous Silk Route to China. It boasts of huge havelis adorned with gorgeous paintings and intricate architecture. The Mandawa Castle is a beautiful place to visit made of white marble and each room ornately decked up with antique furniture and frescos.

Kuchaman- Another place meant for history lovers- Kuchaman is an undiscovered piece of art in Rajasthan. Its impressive fort stands tall at 1100-feet on a cliff and has a huge collection of inlay work in gold, glass and semi-precious stones. It has an ornately dolled up Sheesh Mahal (mirror palace), a masterpiece of art. It also boasts off the Meera Mahal (palace) that is dedicated to the great poet-saint Meerabai and the Jai Mahal (water palace). While at Kuchaman you should also visit the Sabha Prakash (citizens’ court), adorned with semi-precious stones.
